Sony Japan has launched the Xperia ZL2 (SOL25) with their Japanese telecommunications operator KDDI. This device is launched on the same lines of Xperia Z2 in terms of features and specifications with only certain changes done to its display size, design, battery and internal storage.
The Xperia Z2 which was launched earlier this month has a slightly bigger display i.e., 5.2 inches when compared to Xperia ZL2’s 5.0 inch display. This Japanese version ZL2 comes with a plastic back where as the Xperia Z2 has a glass back panel which certainly is a big difference in terms of looks given to this model. The Xperia ZL2 is slightly thicker with a thickness of 10.8mm when compared with the 8.2 mm of the Xperia Z2. In terms of weight there is not much difference because the ZL2 weighs 167 grams while the Z2 weighs 163gms.
The ZL2 comes with a sealed 3000mAh battery compared to Xperia Z2’s 3200mAh capacity. Talking about the other differences, the ZL2 comes with 32GB internal storage where as Z2 has 16GB by default. Most of the other features remains the same like Snapdragon 801, 2.26GHz Quad-Core processor, 3 GB RAM, Triluminos Liquid Crystal Display, 20.7MP Exmor RS camera which supports 1080p HD and 4K video recording along with IP55/IP58 certification. Considering the current heating issues with all the Snapdragon based smart phones and especially with the Xperia devices like X, Z1 & Z2 we guess the ZL2 won’t heat up because of the plastic panel though its quite surprising on how the manufacturer has offered a plastic back when the device is dust proof & water resistant.

The Xperia ZL2 will be available in the market from May-end and will be priced around 79,920 Yen which is around 790 USD . It will be available in a three color variants i.e. Black, White and Turquoise. There is no information on the free smart band which Sony is offering in India, nor the Magnetic Dock which Sony is offering for free in the US.
