How to Update Galaxy Nexus with AOKP based Milestone 5 Custom ROM Firmware

AOKP has good bunch of developers who really come up with custom firmwares which are highly feature rich and come with many add on features which we will be checking out in the due course of this article. Please note that this is not an Official firmware which is released by Google. This update is based on the latest IMM76I update and is only applicable for the devices which are on the latest 4.0.3 or 4.0.4 version of Rooted ICS firmware.

Rooting Information: Please note that once you root the device, the warranty will get void, so keep a note of this. The only way with which you can revoke the root access is by re applying the firmware update.

Caution: This firmware should be strictly applied on the devices which are unlocked devices and are the International version of GSM model bearing I9250 model number.

Essential Pre Requisites:

  • In the process of applying this update, all the data in your Galaxy Nexus may get lost or corrupted, so it’s highly recommended to back up the same only with the help of below mentioned steps and not with the HTC Sync as it doesn’t recognize the device in custom ROM firmwares.

SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Contacts – Sync with the Gmail application,
Call Log – Call Log and Restore
Images, Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names

  • Minimum charge left in the device should be at least 60% so as to ensure that device doesn’t get turned Off in the middle of firmware update.
  • Enable the USB debugging in your phone from the path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging”. The USB Debugging option should be ticked. USB Debugging Mode can only be enabled once you disconnect the phone from computer. USB Debugging should be ticked.

  • Disable all the antivirus suites in your computer and uninstall the same in your device as these tools generally tend to interrupt the process of firmware update.
