If you can just re-collect then IMM76D was the earlier update which roped in the latest ICS 4.0.4 firmware version for the device. Requirements for updating Galaxy Nexus to IMM76I:
- Current Firmware in your Nexus should be IMM76D (It can be rooted but should not be on the custom ROM firmware),
- Minimum recommended battery level should be 50 – 70% at least so as to ensure that the phone doesn’t get turned Off in the middle of firmware update.
Procedure to Update Galaxy Nexus with Official IMM76I ICS 4.0.4 Firmware Update:
Manual method 1:
- Since this update has been pushed to most of the devices, you can first check whether this update has hit your phone or not. You can check the same by going to the path “Settings > About Phone > System updates” after which it will check for any updates.
- Once the phone is restarted, check the same whether the update has been installed successfully or not from the path “Settings > About Phone > Build Number” which will show as IMM76I.
- Just in case if there are any updates, it will download the update. Once the update is downloaded, it will ask you to select the option of “Restart & install” as shown in the below screen capture.
- Once you select the option, the phone will be rebooting and will apply the update of IMM76I in your Galaxy nexus. It will take around 3 – 4 minutes for applying this update.
If you haven’t got any update by following the above procedure, you need to now follow the below method so as to apply the update manually. Please note that this update should only be applied to the Galaxy Nexus International GSM version of I9250 model and not to any other locked model as it may even brick the device.
Manual Method 2:
- Download the IMM76I Update Zip Package from here to your computer and once you do that, you now need to connect your phone to the computer. Ensure that the USB Debugging Option is enabled in your phone. USB Debugging in Galaxy Nexus can be enabled from “Settings Developer Options > Development > USB debugging”. The USB Debugging option should be ticked which you can do by tapping on the radio button option.
- Now, place the update zip file in the device. Ensure that you are not placing the file deep into the device or else there is a probability that the update file may not get detected. After placing the file, disconnect the device connected from computer and turn off the same. Assuming that you have rooted your Galaxy nexus and custom recovery is installed in your phone. You now need to boot your phone in the recovery mode by turning Off the phone and press the Volume Down button + power button.
- Now, boot into the recovery mode by selecting Recovery mode. In the recovery mode, you need to select “install zip from sd card” and then select the option of “choose zip from sd card” to select the zip file of IMM76I which you have placed in the device.
- One you select the file, you need to wait for the same to get processed. After the update is applied successfully, you need to select the option of “reboot system now” for rebooting the device. After he phone gets rebooted, check the same whether the update has been installed successfully or not from the path “Settings > About Phone > Build Number” which will show as IMM76I.
Tip: Due to some reasons if the update process gets failed or interrupted, then you need to apply the update again by following the steps again from the start.
