Update Galaxy SL I9003 with Official Gingerbread 2.3.6 Firmware – Guide

Samsung Guess LogoSamsung Galaxy SL I9003 users can now rejoice as an all-new Official firmware update has arrived which is a Value Pack update dubbed as DDLF2 and is a Gingerbread 2.3.6 firmware release. This update has been Officially pushed to all the Indian users over the KIES PC Suite. Just in case if you have not installed any of the custom or beta firmwares before, then this update can be availed by KIES. For getting this, you need to ensure that you have an updated release of Samsung KIES. If you are on the beta firmware or say if you have applied firmwares using Odin, then you will have to manually update this Official release. Over a period of this article we will be checking out the same.

Rooting Information: Applying this update won’t root the device in any manner. Also, if your phone is pre rooted, the same will be unrooted after applying with this firmware and then you can reclaim the lost warranty too.

Unfortunately there are no signs of ICS Android 4.0 or say Jellybean 4.1 for Galaxy SL GT I9003 device, there are few developers who are working to port a stable ICS firmware for the device. Issues Fixed in DDLF2:

  • Auto Rotation bug has been fixed,
  • Battery issue has been addressed,
  • Issues related to Camera have been fixed,
  • Issues with force close errors in some Games is now fixed,
  • Google PLAY Store is now much more smoother and also most of the launchers now work seamlessly
  • There are many more minor bug fixes which have been done in this firmware release.

Quick Pre Requisites:

  • All the data in your device will have to be wiped Off as the data may get corrupted which will give rise to force close errors. So, its highly recommended to back up the data with the below steps and copy all the target back up files in your computer.

SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
ContactsSync with the Gmail application,
Call Log –Call Log and Restore
Images, Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names

  • Ensure that your Galaxy SL I9003 is left with the minimum of 60% battery charge so as to make sure that the device doesn’t get turned Off in the middle of firmware update.
