How to Update Google Nexus S 4G to Gingerbread 2.3.7 Firmware

Pre Requisites:

  • There are some pre requisites which you need to follow before proceeding for the update as for safe updation of the device.
  • Firstly you will have to ensure that you have created a backup of all the data which is there in the phone. The data which is at high risk are the text messages and the contacts. All other data like Songs, Videos and Images can be moved to the internal SD card so that the data can be saved from getting erased. The data can be backed and restored by following the procedures which are mentioned in the below links.

SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Contacts – Sync with the Gmail application,
Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names

  • Ensure that the phone is charged to atleast 70% plus so as to ensure that the device is not powered Off at the time of application of update.
  • Also, ensure that the USB Debugging Mode is turned On before you proceed with the instructions. The USB debugging mode can be turned On by Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging.
