Procedure to update HTC Evo 4G with Cyanogen Mod 7.1 update:
Clock Work Mod Recovery:
- After downloading the Cyanogen mod 7.1 update for HTC Evo 4G along with the Google Apps in your computer or Laptop, you will now need to proceed to connect the HTC Evo 4G Phone to the computer or laptop and then copy these two files in your phone in the root of the phone and not in any of the folders in your phone or else it will not be detecting the update file.
- Now, as soon as you move the files, it’s now time to turn off the phone so that then you can enter into the recovery mode. The recovery mode in the HTC EVO 4G can be entered by pressing the Volume down button and then pressing the Power button after which the recovery screen will be shown.
- Now, upon entering into the recovery mode you will now need to proceed to select the option of “Clear Storage” which will clear off all the cache data which is there in your phone right from the junk files to the files which are created by the current firmware. After this you need to select the option of “install zip from SD Card” and select “Choose zip from SD Card” after which there will be a list of files shown which are there in the phone out of which you need to choose the file which is named as “”. So, once you have selected the file you now need to proceed to the next step.
- Note that if you get an error of “E: Signature Failed” then that means that the phone is not rooted and you will have to root the phone again by following the procedure which is mentioned in the last page.
- So, now if the firmware is updated successfully you will now need to proceed to select the option of “install zip from SD Card” > “Choose zip from SD Card” and then select the Zip file of Google Apps which you have downloaded from the above step.
- Now, after updating the two zip files which are the Firmware file as well as the Google Apps, you now need to choose the ”++++ Go back++++” option and choose the option of “Reboot System Now” after which the phone will be restarted. As soon as the phone is restarted, you will see that the phone is updated successfully and there you go you are on the latest version of Cyanogen Mod 7.1 version.
Just in case if you are unable to update the phone then you will have to follow the ROM Manager method for which the instructions are mentioned below.
ROM Manager Method:
- Before proceeding, you first need to turn on the device if its turned Off and then you will have to go to the Android Market Place and download the application called the “ROM MANAGER” application in your HTC Evo 4G.
- Once the ROM Manager application is downloaded and installed, you will now need to choose the option of Backing up the ROM. It’s always better to backup the ROM as if just in case if anything goes wrong in the process of firmware update then you can restore the original ROM at any point of time.
- As soon as you open the ROM Manager you will see that there will be an array of options in the append now at this point of time you will have to select the option of “install zip from SD Card” > “Choose zip from SD Card” and then select the Zip file of the “” and also after that the Google Apps which you have downloaded in the above step.
Now, as soon as the process is finished, you will see that the phone will be rebooted and the firmware will get installed successfully.
