Pre Requisites:
- In the process of updating the device the data stored in the phone might get erased, so ensure that you create a backup of the same. One needs to create a backup of all the data which is mentioned above by following the corresponding tips so that one can then easily restore the same as soon as the firmware is updated successfully.
SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Contacts – Sync with the Gmail application,
Call Log – Call Log and Restore
Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names”
- So, once you are done with the backup, you will have to ensure that at least your phone has a battery backup of 50% so that the phone doesn’t get turned Off in the middle of firmware update as firmware updation will take more battery than the usual operation.
Special Instructions for users on Custom ROM:
Just in case if you have already rooted the phone and is already on the custom ROM then you need to get into the recovery mode and then choose “Wipe data / factory reset” and then followed by the option of “Wipe Cache Partition”. Selecting these options will clear all the data which is there in the phone or else this will corrupt the data which is there in the phone.
Just in case if you have installed any lag fixes then you need to disable the same and also you will have to ensure that if you have over clocked the processor then bring back the same to the normal clock speed or else your phone will become unstable and your device will have issues in getting updated to the Gingerbread release.
