Procedure to update the firmware to HTC Thunderbolt Gingerbread 2.3:
- First up you will have to download the Gingerbread Zip file and also the Radio zip file. So, as soon as you download the zip file you will have to unzip the same. Please note that you should not modify the contents of the zip file in any manner by unzipping it, if you still continue to unzip then you will not be able to update the phone.
- As soon as you unzip the files you need to rename the “AndroidADVICES_PG05IMG_2.11.605.3.zip” file as “PG05IMG.zip” file and need to ensure that you have renamed the file to “update.zip” and not to “update.zip.zip” or else the update file won’t be recognized.
- Now, next up you will have to connect the phone with the help of USB cable which you have got at the time of purchase. Now you will have copy the zip file into your phone and then you will have to turn Off the phone.

Note : Just in case if you are unable to access the internet after the firmware update, you will have to re configure the APN settings after updating the firmware to access the data services and the Internet services as all the Internet APN settings will be reset. You will have to contact your Service provider to get more info on the APN Settings. Not to forget also configure the MMS Settings.
The phone now will be restarted and then the firmware will be applied automatically.
