How to update Samsung Galaxy S GT I9000 with CyanogenMod 7.0.1

Procedure to Root and install Clock Work Mod Recovery on Galaxy S GT I9000:

  • Before proceeding you will have to note that, the existing firmware on your Samsung Galaxy S if either a minimum of Froyo 2.2 or higher and also if your Galaxy S is already rooted and has the Clock Work Mod Recovery installed then you can leave this section and can proceed to the next page for the next set of instructions and if you haven’t rooted or doesn’t have the CWM installed then follow the steps which are mentioned below,
  • First up you will have to download the hardcore Speed Mod kernel along with the ClockworkMod recovery from the Heimdall suite that is the Hardcore’s SpeedMod Kernel with ClockworkMod Recovery and also additionally note that you will be requiring the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package installed in your computer which can be downloaded from here.
  • Now after this, following the list of pre requisites which are mentioned in the previous page you will have to turn off your Galaxy S.
  • Assuming that the Galaxy S is now in the turned Off stage, you now will have to boot your Samsung Galaxy S GT I9000 in the download mode. The download mode can be entered by holding the Volume Down button + the Home key button (the middle button). While holding these both buttons, you need to switch ON your device. Now, if you have successfully entered into the download mode then you will see a green screen which is shown below. Please note that if the device boots in the normal mode with the home screen then retry the process.

  • Now, you will have to run the included zadig.exe in the drivers folder of the Heimdall Suite after which from the menu you will have to choose the Options > List all Devices so that all the devices are listed.
  • Next up you will have to select the option of Samsung USB Composite Device from the drop down menu and then next you will have to click on install the driver. At this stage, you will see a prompt wherein you will see a warning that the installer is unable to verify the publisher of the driver. Ignore the same and select “Install this driver anyway.”
  • You will now see that the heimdall can be safely used in your computer after which you will have to unzip the Hardcore’s Speedmod kernel and launch the heimdall frontend application in your computer.
  • At this point of time, you will now have to select the downloaded kernel in the Kernel (zImage) section and then you will have to power off the Galaxy S and Boot the Samsung Galaxy S into download mode.
  • The download mode can be entered by holding the Volume Down button + the Home key button (the middle button). While holding these both buttons, you need to switch ON your device. Now, if you have successfully entered into the download mode then you will see a green screen which is shown below. Please note that if the device boots in the normal mode with the home screen then retry the process.
  • Click on the Start on the Heimdall Frontend after which you will see that a blue transfer bar will be appearing on the phone where it will show that the kernel is being transferred and after completion of the same the device will reboot automatically.
  • Once the device gets booted, you will see that the Clock Work Mod recovery is successfully planted in the Galaxy S. As soon as the CWM is installed, you will have to choose the Advanced ULK Features using the Volume Rocker to navigate & the Power button to select and then choose the option of Root after which just reboot the device to finish the process of rooting as well as installing the CWM in your Galaxy S.
