Galaxy S ICS LogoJust few days back we saw on how to apply the firmware of Samsung Galaxy S GT I9000 with the latest version of RC 4.1 ICS along with a separate article for Wi Fi fix and now an all new update has been pushed by developer dubbed as RC 4.2 version which promises to solve the bugs related to Wi Fi and Camera. Please follow the instructions strictly as we have observed that many users wanted to migrate / apply this update from some other custom firmwares, but please stick to the instructions carefully as mentioned in the article so as to facilitate smoother and safer firmware update.

Please note that this update is not an Official update released by Samsung Electronics and there is no ETA on by when there will be a Value Pack or ICS update for Galaxy S. There have been many fixes which this update ropes in which we have summed up in the change log section mentioned at the end of this article. We really thank the developer Paul Forde who has made a huge contribution in rolling out this One Cosmic ICS Custom ROM.

Caution: This update is not recommended for network locked devices.

Disclaimer: At Android Advices, we have made sure in all respects that all the information regarding the firmware update is mentioned correctly in this article. We hold no responsibility in any manner just in case if any damage happens to your Galaxy S GT I9000 which is a very unlikely event if you follow the instructions carefully.

Change log of RC 4.2

As we always tell, backup all the data present in your phone with the help of below tips and not with the KIES as it doesn’t support SGS on this ICS build as it’s not an Official update.

SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Contacts – Sync with the Gmail application,
Notes – Manually save the notes in your mail as these will be lost in the process of firmware update
Call Log – Call Log and Restore
Images, Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names

Minimum battery charge left in the phone should be at least 70% so as to ensure that device doesn’t get turned Off in the middle of firmware update.

So assuming that you have followed all the above mentioned instructions, you can now proceed to the next page where we will be checking out on how to update with ICS Android 4.0.3 firmware RC 4.2 version.
