Pre Requisites:
Ensure that you are on the Rooted XXJVU Firmware, just in case if you are not on the rooted XXJVU Firmware then you can update and root the same by following the below mentioned steps
Procedure to Update ICS Android 4.0.3 RC 4.2 Firmware in Galaxy S GT I9000:
- Download RC 4.2 Firmware Package from here to your computer. After this, connect your phone to the computer using the USB cable to place this zip file in your phone. Ensure that you are not placing this zip file deep into any of the folders.
- After placing the file in your phone, disconnect the phone from computer to enable the USB Debugging Mode from the path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging. Ensure that the USB Debugging option is ticked as shown in the below screen capture.
- After this, you need to turn Off the phone to enter the device in the recovery mode.
- The recovery mode can be entered by pressing Volume Up Key + OK button, and holding both simultaneously press the Power Button. In recovery mode, select options “Wipe data/factory reset”, “Wipe Cache partition” to clear all the cache present in the device. Disable all the lag fixes if there are any in your phone or else the device may even brick.
- Select “install zip from sd card” > “choose zip from sd card” after which you need to select the RC 4.2 ICS Android 4.0.3 Zip file which you placed in your phone. After selecting, you will see that it will take around 15 minutes for applying this update. After this, you need to select “++++ Go Back ++++” and then select “reboot system now” to reboot the phone in the ICS Android 4.0.3 firmware.
- So after this, you need to again turn Off your phone so as to follow the below mentioned step.
Tip: Just in case if the device gets stuck on the “S” Logo then you need to re insert the battery to re follow the above procedure.
For users Getting Force Close errors:
If you are getting the force close errors then you will have to clear the cache from the recovery mode by selecting the options Wipe data/factory reset” and “Wipe Cache partition”.
So there you go, you have now successfully applied the latest firmware of ICS Android 4.0.3 firmware RC 4.2 firmware.
