How to Update Samsung Vibrant T959 with ICS 4.0.4 Custom ROM Firmware

Samsung Guess LogoSamsung Vibrant users too can enjoy the latest version of Custom ROM based ICS IMM76I Android’s ICS 4.0.4 firmware. Please note that this is not an official firmware released by Samsung and also unfortunately there won’t be any official ICS 4.0.4 update released. Though this custom ROM firmware comes with few bugs, but will be sorted out in the coming patch updates. Full credits to XDA Forum Member toryheal, who has come up with this custom ROM Firmware. Over a period of this article, we will be checking out on what are the features of this custom ROM, pre requisites and then followed by the detailed guide on how to apply this update. This firmware is dubbed as RMS custom ROM for Samsung Vibrant.

Note: This update should only be applied on the unlocked phones and not on the locked phones, also device needs to be rooted before applying this update. If you apply this update on the locked phones, then there is a possibility that the device may become unstable.

Vibrant ICS

Let’s check out on what are the list of pre requisites you need to follow.

Pre Requisites:

  • Go to Settings > About Phone and ensure that your device’s model number is “T959” and nothing else as this firmware can only be applied on T959 device.
  • Data in your Samsung Vibrant should be backed up with the help of below mentioned steps so as to ensure that just in case of the data gets lost of corrupted, the same can be restored easily with the help of below mentioned steps. Donn’t backup the data using the KIES or any other PC Suite as it doesn’t support the custom ROM firmwares.

SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Contacts – Sync with the Gmail application,
Call Log – Call Log and Restore
Images, Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names

  • Minimum charge left in the device should be at least 60% so as to ensure that device doesn’t get turned Off in the middle of firmware update.
  • Enable the USB Debugging in your Samsung Vibrant from the path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging”. The USB Debugging option should be ticked.
  • Disable all the antivirus suites in your computer and uninstall the same in your device as these tools generally tend to interrupt the process of firmware update.
