Procedure to Update Xperia PLAY with ICS Android 4.0 Firmware:
- Ensure that you are on the 4.0.2A.0.42 firmware only, you can check the firmware from the path Settings > About Phone > Firmware Version” where it should show the current firmware as 4.0.2A.0.42. If there is any other version being shown then you need to update with the 4.0.2A.0.42 Firmware and then only you need to proceed with this procedure.
- You also need to unlock the Boot loader of Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY
- Download the Official Xperia PLAY ICS Package from here to your computer and once it’s updated, you then will have to follow the terms and conditions from the mentioned link.
- After this, you need to place the downloaded file in your fast boot directory and then extract the contents of the .zip file using the suitable software. Please be informed that the fastboot directory will be in the Android SDK Folder.
- Now, with the help of fastboot, you need to enter the below mentioned commands one by one.
fastboot flash boot ..\Fastboot\Xperia_PLAY_ICS_beta\boot.img
fastboot flash userdata ..\Fastboot\Xperia_PLAY_ICS_beta\userdata.img
fastboot flash system ..\Fastboot\Xperia_PLAY_ICS_beta\system.img
- Once all the commands are processed and executed successfully, the device will be rebooted.
- Now, turn Off the phone so that it can then be entered in the recovery mode. Press the Power button and while the device is rebooted, press the Volume Rockers a few times to boot into the Recovery. Once the device boots into the Recovery, use the side Volume Rocker to move around, & the Power button to select the option.
- In recovery mode, select Wipe data/factory reset and also you need to select Wipe Cache partition and then reboot your device by selecting reboot system now with the help of Volume rocker keys. Once it’s done, you then will have to select the option of “reboot system now” for restarting the device.
Note: At any point of time just in case if the process of firmware update gets stopped due to any reason, all you need to do is restart the process from the start by re inserting the battery.
