Update Jan 25, 2016: The Chinese smartphone maker, Xiaomi has been in the rumor rounds about the official launch of its flagship Xiaomi Mi 5 smartphone. Now, the company has officially confirmed the launch of the device on its Weibo account that the Mi 5 will be announced on February 24th. Earlier Jan 14, 2016: The popular smartphone company, Xiaomi has been in the rumor rounds for a while now, about the launch of its upcoming flagship smartphone called as Mi 5. The smartphone was expected to be launched on January 21, but the company has recently confirmed that the Mi 5 will launch on February 20. Earlier, we spoke about few images and video of the upcoming smartphone leaked online revealing the design and color schemes. Now, the smartphone is again listed on an e-commerce website, GearBest showing the design and specifications of the smartphone.
As per the listing, the Mi 5 features a 5.2-inch QHD (2560×1440 pixels) display with 565ppi as pixel density, 2.5D arc glass, and Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection laid over top of it. Under the hood, it packs all new Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 64-bit quad-core processor clocked at 1.8GHz paired with whooping 4GB of RAM. The device is listed in 16GB/64GB of built-in storage variants, and there is no information about the external microSD card slot.
On the photographic section, the Mi 5 is expected to sport a 16MP autofocus rear camera with LED flash and an 8MP front-facing camera for video chats and perfect selfie clicks. The primary camera of the device is also expected to support 4K video recording at 30fps. The smartphone will come with premium looks with a metal frame around the sides and 3D glass back panel. The smartphone will also include an oval-shaped physical home button that also double’s up as fingerprint sensor and is claimed to be one of the smallest and fastest sensor.
The device supports dual sim dual standby and runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box. As per earlier leaks, it is supposed to run on latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Connectivity options on it include 4G-LTE, Bluetooth, NFC, GPS, Wi-Fi and is also expected to feature USB Type-C port. The handset powers 3600mAh battery and also supports Quick Charge 2.0 technology. The dimensions of the device measure 142 x 72 x 8 mm weighs around 170 grams and will come in Black, White, Gold color variants.
According to the listing, the 16GB version of the Mi 5 is priced at $551.72 (approx Rs. 37,000) while the 64GB variant costs around $641.89 (approx Rs. 43,100). Although the details are completely based on rumors and as there is no official word from the company, we advise you to take this information with a pinch of salt.
