A couple of months ago, the Chinese smartphone giant, Xiaomi launched the budget-friendly Redmi 3 smartphone in China priced at $107. Earlier, we exclusively covered about the upgraded variant of the Redmi 3 passing through the TENAA certification revealing the upgrades over its predecessor. Today, the brand has officially released the successor of Redmi 3 called as Xiaomi Redmi 3 Pro in China. Along with the impressive smartphone, Xiaomi has also announced new home appliances under the new sub-brand called as Mijia.
Coming to the specifications part, the Redmi 3 Pro flaunts a 5-inch (1280×720 pixels) HD IPS display that offers a pixel density of 294ppi. Under the hood, the smartphone comes equipped with Snapdragon 616 64-bit octa-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz coupled with Adreno 405 GPU and 3GB of RAM. It features a hybrid sim slot that lets you use microSD card instead of the second sim. It has 32GB of onboard storage and also includes a microSD card option for further expansion of memory upto 128GB.
On the camera department, the smartphone sports a 13MP rear camera with LED flash, PDAF for quick focus, f/2.0 aperture and a 5MP front snapper for video chats and perfect selfie images. The device runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop based MiUi 7 overlaid, and there is no information about the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update. It supports dual sim dual standby with 4G-LTE and other basic connectivity options like Bluetooth 4.1, Wi-Fi, GPS/A-GPS and microUSB 2.0 port with OTG functionality.
The handset comes backed by a 4100mAh battery that can easily take you through a couple of days of mixed usage. The smartphone features a full-metal magnesium alloy unibody design and also includes a fingerprint sensor for enhanced security. The addition of fingerprint sensor is the one major upgrade among both the devices. Its dimensions measure 139.3 x 69.6 x 8.5 mm weighs around 144 grams and comes in Grey, Gold and Silver color options. The Redmi 3 Pro is priced at 899 Yuan (approx $138 / Rs. 9,190) and will be available for purchase in China starting from April 6th.
