Xiaomi Redmi 2A now Available for Purchase for $80

Update: Xiaomi had the announced the Xiaomi Redmi 2A earlier this year, at the price of $97. According to the reports coming out of China suggest that Xiaomi has cut the price of the smartphone with immediate effect to only $80.

The Redmi 2A features 4.7-inch HD (720×1280 pixel) IPS display with a 312ppi. It is powered by a 1.4GHz quad-core Leadcore (L1860C) Cortex-A7 processor coupled with 1GB of RAM. The other specs include 8GB of inbuilt storage expandable via microSD card (up to 32GB); 8-megapixel rear camera with f/2.2 lens, 2-megapixel front-facing camera, and a 2200mAh battery with fast-charging.

It supports TDD-LTE Bands 38, 39, 40, and 41. Other wireless connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n with Direct and wireless display functionality, alongside GPS/ A-GPS. The dimensions of the phone are 134.00×67.20×9.40mm.

Xiaomi has officially unveiled the Redmi 2A smartphone in China, today. It is the lite version of the Redmi 2 and comes with a Leadcore LC1860C Quad-core processor (Cortex-A7) with Mali-T628MP2 GPU instead of the Snapdragon 410 found on the Redmi 2.

The smartphone comes 1GB of DDR3 RAM and 8GB of storage while it also offers 4G LTE connectivity. It features 4.7-inch 720p IPS display with a 2,200mAh battery. This handset is priced at 599 Yuan ($97), which is a 100 Yuan cheaper than the original Snapdragon 410-powered Redmi 2 (1GB version). At the present, there is no word when it’s going to be available.

Xiaomi has announced a bunch of new products as part of their 5th Anniversary celebration. Xiaomi unveiled the Pink color variant of the Xiaomi Mi Note. Along with this, Xiaomi also announced it’s Smart Scale and smart socket. The smart scale is equipped with LED lights which will indicate the weight, and you can connect it to your smartphone.

Earlier: According to the latest reports coming out of China, Xiaomi’s cheapest smartphone is expected to be released on April 8th. Xiaomi’s low priced Leadcore device will cost 499 Yuan ($80) instead of 399 Yuan unlike earlier predicted. A China Mobile executive has posted a photo of the alleged low-cost smartphone being produced by Xiaomi, last week. This device received the certification from TENAA in January.

The rumoured specs include a 4.7-inch screen with a resolution of 720 x 1280. The device is expected to be powered by a quad-core 1.6GHz Leadcore LC 1860 CPU while the Mali T628 GPU handles graphics coupled with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage. A microSD slot will be available for those who need to add memory. On camera front, it will feature 13MP rear camera and 2MP front facing camera, and it will run on Android 4.4.4 out of the box.

According to the latest reports, Xiaomi is working on a $65 (399 Yuan) smartphone powered by Leadcore processor. Xiaomi will use LC1860 chip of the Leadcore for this low-cost smartphone. LC1860 SoC has support for 2K LCD displays and is built around 28nm Cortex-A7 architecture while it runs at 2.0GHz. This chip comes with a Mali T628 GPU for graphics processing and offers 1080p video capture at 60 FPS. This chip also brings 4G LTE support. The upcoming Xiaomi phone will allegedly cost only 399 Yuan ($65) and will include this LC1860 SoC on the inside. The device will reportedly sport a 72op display and 1GB of RAM along with 4G LTE support.

Last week, Datang Telecom’s wholly-owned subsidiary Leadcore Technologies signed a “technology transfer contract” with Xiaomi. The deal, worth a reported RMB 103 million (US$16.8 million), gives Xiaomi access to Leadcore’s core technology patents, boosting its intellectual property holdings. Xiaomi’s IP portfolio in its home country, which includes patents, is dwarfed by rival phone makers like Apple and Samsung.

Xiaomi is also working on a new tablet, and the device had appeared on GFXBench database last week. According to the information available on the benchmark website, this new Xiaomi tablet features a 64-bit 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor, Adreno 306 GPU, a 9.2-inch 1280×720 display, 1GB RAM, 8GB of storage, and it’s running Android 4.4.4 KitKat. The single SIM device is also coming with Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity. The device will provide a pixel density of just 160ppi.

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi continued to dominate the China’s smartphone market as two of the company’s models topped the sales charts in the third quarter. Xiaomi shipped 18 million units of smartphones in the third quarter, an increase of 18 percent from the previous quarter, the company’s founder and CEO Lei Jun recently posted on his Sina Weibo microblog.

Earlier another global market researcher International Data Corporation (IDC) said in a report that Xiaomi jumped into the top 5 manufacturers list for the first time thanks to its focus on China and adjacent markets, which resulted in triple-digit year-over-year growth.In the third quarter of this year, Xiaomi’s global market share stood at 5.3 percent, following Samsung’s 23.8 percent and Apple’s 12 percent, according to IDC.
