hello! everyone, how are you? I tried to root my htc desire a 1818 (orange htc with htc sense on the back) to install our Burmese font. I took my htc phone’s battery out and put in back. and i pressed power button and volume down button at the same time to get recovery mode. i enter recovery, mount and storage and i happened to do format system and wide cache/ data as well. now when i reboot my device/ open my phone, it show just light and HTC on the screen. if anyone know how to fix it to get menu/ icons back on the phone screen, please advice me how to do it. Great thanks !!!!!

ha, it works ! i´m definitely not a geek, and made it work – or maybe i am somehow.
Humm.. let´s see, some apps are more mature mainly on the look and feel side of story. all the memory i saved when installing gingerbread already consumed, and i´d put nothing but the ordinary in, battery lasts slighlty longer indeed, at least it don´t run out at 6 pm ! The mouse track lost a bit of sensibility :(
still to find a way to fix this… keep pushing, this is getting better every day.

  15. Reply Schackz August 18, 2011 at 1:46 am

I have updated my HTC desire to Gingerbread 2.3 without any issues so far and am posting step by step on how to upgrade, You can find it at

  16. Reply Ross August 16, 2011 at 6:48 pm

Since upgrading to 2.3, which seemed to install fine, I have major bugs with text messaging. If I start to text, then delete a couple of characters, the phone jumps in a loop of delete mesages by selection. When I finally get out of this I can’t type anything until I press the menu button and then cancel it. Then I can finish the text, but after this to send the message the phone jumps up to the first message I ever sent to the person and I have to scroll through all of the old messages until I reach the bottom to press the send button. Has anyone had this problem? Also wifi keeps dropping out which used to be really solid. HTC Desire HD on Orange. Would really apprecate a fix for this as it’s really frustrating. Phone was brilliant before the upgrade.

its not an issue of the ROM , you need to do the factory reset once!

  26. Reply Arne May 13, 2011 at 10:41 pm

Did work fine! But why the hell don’t you mention the fact that it is OXYGEN ROM anywhere. This is of no use if you really want to have the complete Gingerbread update. I guess I have to wait for the official one since it will be out in a few weeks for my Desire…

  27. Reply Juanjo May 12, 2011 at 1:19 pm

I have exactly the same problem that “Nare Pesso”. And i don´t know how to come back to the last 2.2 froyo android version which worked perfectly… I think people will be try those flash before to upload to ingenuous people that I, used it….
Have anyone reproduce and any solution about this issue?
    Best regards

  29. Reply hell ya March 31, 2011 at 8:23 pm

is this the official android 2.3 or it is edited with a developer if it is the official one why is the oxygen logo at the initiation of the phone??

    • Reply Neal Pradeep March 31, 2011 at 8:54 pm

its not the official version, its the custom made version, beta one!

  30. Reply Nare Pesso March 26, 2011 at 6:02 pm

I followed the instructions above and all went well till it got stuck in a black screen with the word OXYGEN in sparkling green appeared. It is stuck in this screen and cannot be restarted by the power button. Removing the battery and restarting normally after 1-5 minutes brings the same black screen with green OXYGEN which occasionally blinks or goes off for 1/2 a second. Taking out the battery and rebooting with “volume – down and power button” will reboot into rooted mode and I can then do a recovery boot and install from the sd card or restore or install zip or rom, none of these attempts have ended in anything other than the black screen with the OXYGEN. Any ideas?

    • Reply Neal Pradeep March 27, 2011 at 8:41 am

@Nare Pusso just retry the procedure you will get through!

    • Reply Tarek ELmahdy June 18, 2011 at 11:51 am

noob here & i’ve not upgraded a phone OS before so I must be missing something. Why do it this way (which isn’t that straightforward) when there seems to be a built in ‘system update’ facility?
What are the (potential) problems with just letting the phone do the update itself?
    [I’m on 2.2 atm]
    many thanks
