noob here & i’ve not upgraded a phone OS before so I must be missing something. Why do it this way (which isn’t that straightforward) when there seems to be a built in ‘system update’ facility?
What are the (potential) problems with just letting the phone do the update itself?
    [I'm on 2.2 atm]
    many thanks

Is it possible to load Gingerboard 2.3 OS on this mobile?

How to do it any help.

  16. Nare Pesso says:

I followed the instructions above and all went well till it got stuck in a black screen with the word OXYGEN in sparkling green appeared. It is stuck in this screen and cannot be restarted by the power button. Removing the battery and restarting normally after 1-5 minutes brings the same black screen with green OXYGEN which occasionally blinks or goes off for 1/2 a second. Taking out the battery and rebooting with “volume – down and power button” will reboot into rooted mode and I can then do a recovery boot and install from the sd card or restore or install zip or rom, none of these attempts have ended in anything other than the black screen with the OXYGEN. Any ideas?

  20. Arne says:

Did work fine! But why the hell don’t you mention the fact that it is OXYGEN ROM anywhere. This is of no use if you really want to have the complete Gingerbread update. I guess I have to wait for the official one since it will be out in a few weeks for my Desire…

  30. Ross says:

Since upgrading to 2.3, which seemed to install fine, I have major bugs with text messaging. If I start to text, then delete a couple of characters, the phone jumps in a loop of delete mesages by selection. When I finally get out of this I can’t type anything until I press the menu button and then cancel it. Then I can finish the text, but after this to send the message the phone jumps up to the first message I ever sent to the person and I have to scroll through all of the old messages until I reach the bottom to press the send button. Has anyone had this problem? Also wifi keeps dropping out which used to be really solid. HTC Desire HD on Orange. Would really apprecate a fix for this as it’s really frustrating. Phone was brilliant before the upgrade.

  36. AZ says:

ha, it works ! i´m definitely not a geek, and made it work – or maybe i am somehow.
Humm.. let´s see, some apps are more mature mainly on the look and feel side of story. all the memory i saved when installing gingerbread already consumed, and i´d put nothing but the ordinary in, battery lasts slighlty longer indeed, at least it don´t run out at 6 pm ! The mouse track lost a bit of sensibility :(
still to find a way to fix this… keep pushing, this is getting better every day.

  37. DesireUser says:

it worked on my first try. it did not even took more than 5mins. and EVERYTHING is working!!! im really excited!!!!! thanks for the FAST, STABLE, BEAUTIFUL rom!!!!!!
    really appreciate it :)

  38. Arakan says:

hello! everyone, how are you? I tried to root my htc desire a 1818 (orange htc with htc sense on the back) to install our Burmese font. I took my htc phone’s battery out and put in back. and i pressed power button and volume down button at the same time to get recovery mode. i enter recovery, mount and storage and i happened to do format system and wide cache/ data as well. now when i reboot my device/ open my phone, it show just light and HTC on the screen. if anyone know how to fix it to get menu/ icons back on the phone screen, please advice me how to do it. Great thanks !!!!!
