How to Root Samsung Galaxy 3 GT I5801 on Froyo 2.2 Firmware

Samsung Galaxy 3 LogoJust in case if you are having a Samsung Galaxy 3 GT 5801 handset and wondering on how you can easily root your phone then not to worry as we will guide you in the same on how you can root it. Please note that as soon as you root the device the warranty gets void, though it’s a reversible process wherein you can revoke the root access at any point of time but for which you will have to follow a simple procedure which we will see in the due course.

The best part of the rooting process is that anyone with the Galaxy 3 irrespective of the current firmware, you can proceed with the rooting procedure. Please note that at least you should be on a Froyo 2.2 operating version of Android and not on Eclair as this method which we will be checking out will only be compatible with the Froyo and Gingerbread builds of the firmware. To check the firmware all you need to do is to just go to the path of Settings > About Phone > Firmware Version where you will find the version of Android OS where it will show that you are on a Froyo or Éclair OS.  If it’s in Éclair 2.1 version then you will have to visit the AndroidAdvices site and need to update with the Froyo atleast.

Just in case if you wanted to know on what are the benefits of rooting then you will be happy to hear that there are tonnes of benefits of rooting and out of which we have selected few important benefits which you can find in the list below. Rooting basically opens up the device in such a way that it allows one to access the system level files so that the customization can be made.

The main advantages of Rooting are :

  • Rooting allows you to use tools like Voodoo & CWM,
  • Rooting allows you to convert file system from laggy RFS to faster EXT4,
  • Custom Firmwares can be installed on rooted phones,
  • Allows you to remove the system applications

Since rooting voids the warranty, you might just wanted to know on how one can easily revoke the root access for reclaiming back the warranty. To reclaim the warranty you will have to update with any of the firmware like DDJG6 and then you can easily reclaim the warranty, but since this device has now become an older device and most of the devices will be out of warranty, we are here to support you on all your software or firmware needs for free. So, until and unless anything major happens with your hardware, we will be able to help you.

Disclaimer: Please note that we should not be held responsible or liable in any manner if anything wrong happens with your device, though which is a very unlikely if you follow the instructions which are mentioned in the article.

So, in the next page let’s check out on what are the list of pre requisites which you need to follow and then followed by the instructions to root in the third page.

  2. kumar says:

Followed your instruction and I’m able to see “superuser” app in menu. But I am not able to get into recovery mode which I used to be before rooting. I did factory reset under setting menu, but then after device got stuck at GT 5801 logo screen. It seems rooting is not permanent and factory resetting is deleting rooting files. Redone rooting step, able to boot properly, superuser application is there but still not able to get into recovery mode. Any idea?

I’ve sucessfully rooted my phone but tried everything to get into recovery mode and still can’t manage to get there. I’ve tried the key combination (got stuck in the “GT-I5801 Samsung” image), I’ve even tried to “boot into recovery mode” via ROM Manager and all I got was to get stucked in “GT-I5801 Samsung” image again (managed to get phone working by doing the rooting process again). What is going on? Why can’t I get into recovery mode? For your information, I have currently an official ROM from Orange (Froyo).

  20. nikhil sehgal says:

I didn’t try but i think ” THE MENU KEY IS LEFT SIDE ON THE HOME KEY ” with which you get options while using phone …for example : you get options of delete by pressing the menu key.
