There are quite a few rumours that BlackBerry is working on an Android-powered smartphone. Now the fresh leaks suggest the device comes with slide-out keyboard and might be called as ‘BlackBerry Venice’. We can expect the device to be launched anytime before the end of this year, and there are more chances that this might an AT&T exclusive device.
What make us believe these rumours is the interview given to media publication, John Chen, CEO of BlackBerry. In that, he said the company is not opposed to building an Android device, as long as it’s secure.
If the rumours are to believe, then BlackBerry Venice sports a 5.4-inch QHD (1440×2560) display with curved edges on both sides. It is powered by a 64-bit Snapdragon 808 hexa-core processor clocked at 1.8GHz and 3GB of RAM. There is an 18MP rear camera with LED flash and 5MP front-facing camera.
There use to be a very few limited smartphones that launched with a full QWERTY keyboard, but the major manufacturers have launched not even a single device in the recent times. So is this the design what might help BlackBerry to turn around its fortunes. Even though there is no official information from the company about the Android-powered smartphone, BlackBerry introduced the ability to install Android apps on its devices that run on BlackBerry 10 OS.
The BlackBerry launched its latest smartphone ‘BlackBerry Leap’ for $275 in the US. It has a 5-inch HD display and comes powered by Qualcomm 8960 dual-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz along with 2GB of RAM. The device has 16GB of internal storage with a microSD card slot for storage expansion up to 128GB. There is 8MP rear camera with autofocus and LED flash and a 2MP front-facing camera. It has an impressive 2,800mAh battery that can last more than 24 hours.
