Installing apps on Nexus Player which was earlier launched by Google is now possible. So for all those users who want to install your favorite apps can do so. All you need to have is the Google Drive account along with the APK file of the app which you desire to have on your Nexus Player. As Google Drive is not currently fully Android TV compatible, the app has to be side loaded to allow the app to work. Unfortunately, the process of installing the app is bit long as first you will be needing to install the Google Drive and then from Google Drive will help you install the Android APK of your choice.
How to Install Google Drive in Nexus Player?
- Not all apps support the Nexus Player. For all those users, here comes the happy news that you can now install the apps in your nexus Player easily, the ones which are not compatible too.
- Download ES File Explorer App in your Nexus Player. After installing, Open Settings in the top row and then you will see the Apps tab.
- In Apps tab, you will see the “Downloaded Apps” section and scroll until you see the ES File Explorer. Click on it to open the same.
- Download Google Drive APK in your Android device and also download the ES File Explorer app in your device.
- Make sure that your Android device and Nexus Player are on the same wifi network.
- Open ES File Explorer app in your android smartphone and tap on the “Net Manager”.
- Next, use ES File Explorer to navigate to APK and press down on the icon until a small tick appears on top left after which you need to click on 3 dots for more options to select “Send”.
- Now, select Nexus Player and then accept the incoming file on your Android TV to download and save the same. Once the Google Drive is installed, you now need to click on “Install” the same as shown in the below screenshot.
- Follow on screen instructions for installing the same and once done, select “Open” to open Google Drive in your Android TV.
