The Huawei Ideos X2 and Lava S12 are Android based smartphones in the lower price segment which come packed with a lot of features and connectivity options, and some eye catching looks. Form Factor
Both the handsets have a small form factor which feats neatly within the palm of your hand. The Lava S12 is 112 x 58 x 12.8 mm, while the Lava S12 is 11.7 cm by 5.75 cm by 1.34 cm. The Ideos X2 weighs just 115 grams while the Lava S12 is also 115grams in weight.
The standard four Android buttons are present on both the phones.

Display
The Huawei Ideos X2, comes with a 3.2 inch TFT Capacitive display with a pixel density of 143ppi while the Lava has a 3.2 inch screen as well and has a screen resolution of 480 x 320 pixels while the Ideos from Huawei has the same resolution as well.
Both the phones support Multi-touch. There is an accelerometer and proximity sensor on both the cellphones as well. Both the displays are capacitive touch displays.
Camera:
The Huawei Ideos X2 has a 3.2MP in the rear and record video at 480p. The Huawei Ideos X2 records video at 24fps and still shots using the camera on the cellphone, are at 2048×1536 pixels is the maximum resolution of photos while the Lava S12 has a 5 Megapixel camera on its back but still cannot record HD video and records video at 480p.
Both phones do not have secondary camera on the front or an LED Flash on the back.
Memory:
The Huawei Ideos X2 has very little(almost negligible) of internal memory which is available for usafe and a microSD card slot that is expandable up to 32GB while the Huawei U8300 also has similar memory specifications, with 300MB of internal memory and is extendable upto 32GB using microSD.
The Lava S12 comes with a 2GB card inside the box while the Huawei Ideos X2’s in-box packaging depends from region to region.

Connectivity:
The Huawei has GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 bands and HSDPA 900/2100 bands which gives maximum speeds upto 3.6Mbps on HSDPA while the Lava S12 has similar bands on GSM and HSDPA as well and, with a support of upto 7.6Mbps on HSDPA.

GPS is available on both the phones and Bluetooth is 2.1 enabled on the Lava S12 while the Huawei Ideos X2 has only Bluetooth 2.0 and comes with A2DP support on both.
Both the cellphones have FM Radio on them as well.
Operating System and UI:
The Huawei Ideos X2 runs on a old version of Android, 2.1 or also known as Eclair. This can be upgraded to 2.2 Froyo using the link from Huawei website. The Lava S12 runs on Android 2.2 Froyo and 3D User Interface on top of stock Android which brings some changes to the user interface and iconography on the device along with an add-on that transforms the phone’s home screen into a virtual 3D space with 16 customizable home screens. Users can further customize the phone with unique smart folders and animated 3D widgets, which are available only on Lava’s UI.
Also, note that Saavn, TuneWiki, Advanced Task Killer, Office Suite, Zenga TV (with 1 year free subscription) & MoneyControl apps are pre-installed on the Lava S12.
The Huawei Ideos X2 also runs on a custom User Interface, with its own improved launcher for Apps and some other changes here and there.

Battery and Processor
The Huawei Ideos X2 has a 1150mAh battery while the Lava S12 has a 1300mAh battery. Lava claims the User Interface is optimised for over 6 hours of continuous entertainment like watching videos or music while talk time and standby time will be much much higher on the Lava S12, owing to its 1300mAh battery, which is quite powerful.
The Huawei Ideos X2has a 600 MHz processor while the Lava S12 has a similar processor at 600Mhz, from Qualcomm.

Conclusion
Both the phones seen here are budget devices, at very low cost. The Huawei Ideos X2 is selling for about 200$ in the markets around the world while the Lava S12 was recently launched at around 250$. Considering the features the Lava S12 offers, it does make a good deal for the money one might put in, though the build quality is not upto the standards. On the other hand, the Huawei Ideos X2 is yet another phone out there which packs a lot of good features and is priced at a very cheap rate but the camera quality and battery capacity on it is not worth the money. If putting in a little more money can get you a 1300mAh powered device with a 5 Megapixel camera, the Lava S12 is a much better device and indeed a VFM product.
