Xiaomi clarifies the Mi Note Pro overheating issues

The Sale of ‘Mi Note Pro’ has started from 12th May in China with a price tag of RMB 2,999 ($483). It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 and sports a 5.7-inch 2K display. Some of the users from China complained about the overheating of the device. For most of you, it may not be surprising because the Snapdragon 810 chipset is facing overheating heating issues since it’s inception.

The company came out to explain the issue and said only one user is affected by getting a defective unit. They also said it was replaced by a new Mi Note Pro and the user expressed satisfaction with the new device. The defected device is in transit to Xiaomi’s Beijing office, where their engineers will investigate it.

Xiaomi had also applied for five different thermal patents that were designed to prevent the Snapdragon 810 chipset from heating. LG and Samsung opted out from using the latest chipset from Qualcomm in their flagship smartphones. LG used the Snapdragon 808 chipset in the recently launched LG G4, where Samsung released the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge with their in-house Exynos 7420 chipset.

Other specifications of the devices include a whopping 4GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage with no microSD card slot and 3090mAh battery. The rear camera on the device is of 13MP with dual LED flash and Optical Image Stabilization, for selfies it has a 4MP front-facing camera. It comes with dual SIM option and supports 4G LTE. The device is 6.95mm thick and weighs 161 grams. Mi Note Pro runs Android 5.0 Lollipop based MIUI6.

Few days earlier, Tim McDonough, VP of Marketing, Qualcomm, said the chip never heated in the commercial devices. If it was the issue with Xiaomi, then they might have to solve it through software updates. The Overheating of the device had burnt the motherboards of few devices, which resulted in the display and touchscreen failures.
