For all those who wanted to install the Ice Cream Sandwich Android 4.0 firmware version in your Samsung Galaxy LTE 8.9 version can now breathe easy as you can now try the latest alpha version of ICS Android 4.0 in your tab with a simple guide which we will be checking out in this article. In the due course of this article we will check out on what are the list of pre Requisites you need to follow and followed by which we will see the procedure in the next page.
Please note that this is the alpha version and not the final version which is released by Samsung Electronics. There is still no news on by when the official update of ICS will be arriving for this phone. The only thing you need to make sure is that your Galaxy Tab 8.9 LTE tab needs to be a rooted one.

Quick Pre Requisites:
- There is a possibility of loss or corruption of data present in the tab, so it’s important to create a backup of the same. With the help of below mentioned tips you can back up the data, you should not backup the data using the PC Suite.
SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Contacts – Sync with the Gmail application,
Notes – Manually save the notes in your mail as these will be lost in the process of firmware update
Images, Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names”
- Ensure that the charge left in your device is minimum of 80% so as to ensure that the tab doesn’t get turned Off in the middle of firmware update.

Limitations in this Firmware Build:
Since it’s the test version, there will be some issues but in the next few coming days we will be getting to see many more improvements. The issues which are there in this build are mentioned below;
- Only Wi Fi Works, 3G Still doesn’t work,
- Camera doesn’t work,
- Some video limitations, you tube HD vids not working,
- Charger screen doesn’t look correct when you plugin without booting up (charging status)
- Voice search doesn’t work – May have something to do with this error:
- W/Package Manager(257): Failure retrieving resources forcom.google.android.voice search: Resource ID #0x0
- There are some issues with some particular apps as these encounter the force close errors
