The Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge have now begun to receive their much-anticipated updates to Android 5.1.1. This update comes courtesy of T-Mobile in the US, although now other carriers will also push their customized updates. The update is available over the air, through Samsung Kies, and through our firmware database and is of 1.4 GB size.
Apart from the slew of minor fixes that Google implemented with this version of Android, Samsung has of course added its own changes on top, with options to clean the notification shade now present, along with the performance improvements.Samsung has also added a redesigned set of exposure controls within the camera app, and a new wallpaper parallax effect as seen in iOS7.
Whether this update will fix the memory handling issues that have been affecting this otherwise strongly performing device is not clear yet. Many users of the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge have been facing memory issues with their handsets. Users of both the handsets complained that apps do not stay in the RAM for long. Both the handsets boast 3 GB of RAM, but it is the RAM management setting that is causing the memory issues.
Samsung launched the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in March this year, and customers started receiving their handsets beginning in April. Both the handsets pack in top-end hardware specs and software features that have attracted millions of smartphone customers throughout the world.
