Pre Requisites:
There are 3 important instructions which you need to follow before proceeding to the actual procedure to apply this update.
- First up ensure that the phone is charged with the minimum of 70% so as to ensure that the phone doesn’t get turned Off in the middle of the firmware update.
- Now, after charging you will have to take the backup of the data as after the firmware update you may end up losing the data. With the help of below mentioned techniques you can easily backup and restore the data.
Text messages – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Phone Contacts – Sync with the Gmail application,
Call Log – Call Log and Restore
Pictures, Music, Videos, Files etc.– Copy to internal / External SD Card,
Internet & MMS Settings – Backup all the settings from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names”
- You also will have to enable the USB Debugging in your phone. The USB Debugging can be enabled from the path Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging.
Instructions for users on Custom ROM:
If you are coming from the Amestris ROM, Cyanogen Mod ROM, HTC Sensation Custom ROM firmwares or say any other custom ROM then you will have to first backup your data from the list of pre requisites above and then you will have to turn Off your phone so as to enter into the recovery mode.The recovery mode can be entered by pressing Volume UP on Volume Down Key + OK button, and holding both simultaneously press the Power Button. In the recovery mode, select Wipe data/factory reset and also you need to select Wipe Cache partition and then reboot your device by selecting reboot system now option.
Now, after this you need to proceed to the procedure which is mentioned below to update the phone.
Procedure to apply Jelly Bean Update on Samsung Galaxy S GT I9000:

- Now, download the Jelly Bean Custom ROM Zip package from here to your computer and then connect your phone to the computer using the USB cable which you got at the time of purchase.
- Move the downloaded file as it is to your phone without renaming or modifying the files or else you will face issues of non compatibility and also ensure that you are not placing the file deep into the sub folders.
- After this turn Off your phone so that you can then enter into the recovery mode. The recovery mode can be entered by pressing Volume Up Key + OK button, and holding both simultaneously press the Power Button.
