One of the most loved Android smart phones Motorola Backflip has received an official Android 2.1 Eclair version few months back from the Android 1.5 version. But since many functionalities still couldn’t get in to make place in Eclair 2.1 Android version the important one being the unable to move apps to SD and many other numerous functionalities. So, let’s check out how you can easily upgrade your Motorola Backflip to Froyo 2.2. But before you proceed to the update you will have to ensure that you have created a backup of all the contents of your phone like Contacts, Messages, Applications, Images, and Videos as in the due course of the firmware update your device will be completely wiped which will eventually erase all the things in your phone, though after creating the backup you can easily restore back all the contents including the Call log too. Pre Requisites:
- You need to first download the recovery file which you need to unzip and need to copy the same in your SD Card.
- Then next up you will have to download the Custom ROM of Froyo 2.2.1 for Motorola Back Flip and simply move this file to the phone’s SD card.
- Since this is a clean firmware update, you will have to also download all the Google Apps which can be done by downloading Google Apps from your computer and copy the same to your phone’s SD card.
- Also, you also need to make sure that all the drivers are installed for the Motorola Back flip, you can download drivers for 32 bit Windows / x86 or for 64 bit Windows / x64. Along with this also download and install the Android SDK and extract the same in your computer and install the same.
- Ensure that your computer / laptop which runs on a XP, Vista or Windows 7 OS the firewall and other antivirus programs are disabled and also you should have admin privileges to download and install the software including the drivers and also along with this you will be requiring the USB port on your computer which supports USB 2.0.
- Also ensure that you have removed the SIM card as well as the external SD cards if any in your phone so that it doesn’t affect the rooting process.
Procedure to install Froyo 2.2.1 on Motorola Backflip:
- First up you will have to root Motorola Backflip and then you will have to proceed for the Froyo 2.2.1 update.
- Now, when you have rooted your Motorola Backflip, you need to open the command prompt which can be done by either typing “Win Key + R” or can open the “Run” dialog box and can type in as “cmd” to open the command prompt.
- Now, as soon as the command prompt is opened, you need to go to the path android-sdk_r07-windows\android-sdk-windows\tools in the path which you have installed the ad, normally in the C drive. Now, just drag the adb.exe into the command prompt command prompt window after which the ADB Server will get started after which you need to enter your phone in the USB Debugging Mode.
- Now after dragging the adb.exe in the command prompt window you will have to just type in the command as “shell” and need to hit on enter button.
- Next up, you will have to type in “su” and then press on enter and approve the notifications if any and after that type in,
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
- Now, next up you will have to reboot the phone in the recovery mode which can be done by turning your phone Off and then press and hold the camera button and while holding this switch on the device by pressing the power button.
- Now, to keep it clean you need to ensure that your phone’s cache is clear and wiped, so for this you will have to select the option of “Wipe all” from your phone in the recovery mode as shown below after which all the data will be deleted.
- After this you will have to press the back button after which you will go to the recovery mode and then you need to select the “Flash zip from SD” option after that you will see the text “SD CARD: cyanogen-6.1.2” and press the home key after which the ROM will begin the installation process. Please note that if you are on the networks which are other than att like TIM, Movil Argentina, Optus, Telcel, Vivo or Oi then you need to download the Signed IT Radio and then you need to copy the same and need to flash it once the upgrade gets done as this has the latest radio version.
- Do note that after 2-3 minutes of the process updation, the updation process will be completed after which you will see that the device will be restarting and this reboot generally is a bit longer one as this is the first reboot after the rooting process.
- So, that’s it as soon as you flash the Froyo on your device, you need to flash the Google Apps which you have downloaded so that it can configure the Android Market place.
That’s it you have now successfully flashed your Motorola Backflip to the custom Froyo 2.2.1 version.
