Google finally releases the 64-bit Android L emulator which works for the x86 based Intel processors. For all developer communities, this is one of the greatest news. This new emulator allows the app developers to optimize the software for all the 64 bit versions of Android L. As the rumors are on that Google will soon be launching the Android L release. Google has mentioned that the app developers will be able to support / handle larger amount of addressable memory space with the 64-bit support and not to forget that even bigger number of registers and new instruction sets can also be handled. Android L is expected to be officially announced to public in somewhere around October mid-end.

The best part is that the apps which are built on the Java will be automatically able to access these additional capabilities. Google has mentioned that the apps which are coded by using the Android NDK will take some additional optimization steps for achieving the full 64-bit support. Just in case if you are unaware of the NDK, then NDK is a toolset that allows you to implement parts of your app using native-code languages such as C and C++.
Also, most number of Android devices uses the ARM based processors of which there is no word on when the 64-bit emulator will be released for such sort of CPUs. Apps built on other languages, built with the Android NDK r10b [0], can compile for 64-bit architectures to access the enhanced features which we talked about the same earlier. So get your apps optimized by downloading the Android NDK from the below mentioned link so that you can start testing your 64-bit apps today. We can only hope that this emulator will also soon be released for the x64 systems.
