How to Install ClockworkMod (CWM) Recovery on Xiaomi Mi4 – Tutorial

Chinese handset maker Xiaomi launched its latest smartphone Mi4 in India, earlier this month. Xiaomi launched the Mi4 in July last year. However, the device did not hit the Indian market until this month.

The company, which entered the Indian market last year, has launched three devices here so far — Redmi 1S, Redmi Note and Mi3 — in partnership with e-commerce major Flipkart. Last week, Xiaomi had launched its flagship smartphones, the Mi Note and Mi Note Pro, at an event in Beijing.

Following is the detailed guide to Install ClockworkMod (CWM) Recovery on Xiaomi Mi4.

Pre-Requisite

1. Download the CWM recovery for Mi4 smartphone.
2. Create a backup of all the data present in your device.
3. Your smartphone should be ROOTED to install CWM Recovery.If you’ve not yet rooted your Xiaomi Mi4 device before, follow the Steps to root the Xiaomi Mi4 Smartphone without loosing Warranty.

In following 2 ways, you can Install ClockworkMod (CWM) Recovery.

METHOD 1

1. Download the Rashr app from the play store.
2. Extract the zip file of the recovery which you downloaded earlier on your computer.
3. Copy the “recovery.img” from extracted file to a folder in the internal memory of the phone.
4. Now,open the rashr app [note – It will ask you for the root permission, accept it. If you’re on MIUI 6, you will have to open the security app and allow root access to this app]
5. Select the first option of the app called “Recovery from storage”, it will show a browser, go to the folder where “recovery.img” is, click on it, validate the flash.
6. After the flash is done, the app will ask you if you want to reboot to recovery, you can say yes if you want to check or use it right know.

METHOD 2

1. Rename the recovery file which you downloaded earlier as update.zip
2. Now, copy that file in the Mi4 device.
3. Open the updater app on your smartphone.
4. Press menu button and then click on “Select update package”
5. Now select the update.zip file.
6. Reboot the device.
