The camera in a smartphone is what sometimes defines one of the unique selling points where the regular travelers would prefer to pull out the phone from the pocket quickly to capture something rather than using the digital cameras. But with the pricing of the smartphones, comes the compromise in the various features and one of these is the camera. Nokia launched the Nokia X with an OS which would attract the buyers for the reason that the Android apps can be installed with ease in it. But, although you might try to use some editing apps to make the captured photo look better, the RAW image at least has to be decent enough to be edited. Nokia’s 3-megapixel camera is quite a disappointment in this aspect, as the captures are not much decent and there are no real good options given along by the company to try and make the capturing better in any way.
As the specs page of the Nokia X states, here are the details.
- Main camera sensor: 3 MP
- Camera resolution: 2048 x 1536 pixels
- Main camera focus type: Fixed focus
- Video recording: 480p
- Flash: No
Even worse, Nokia didn’t include a front facing camera and tried to showcase Skype as one of the important apps for users which they can install and use. How can one make video calls without a front-facing camera?

Talking about the camera provided, the capturing with a fixed focus is never good. You aren’t able to manually select a particular object to focus on, but at least one feature “face recognition” did come as a little sigh of relief because the faces won’t go out of focus when capturing a group shot. While capturing a random photo, you will have to ensure that you are holding the phone at a correct distance from the object as there is no other way to set the focus. To add to all this, you are not getting any flash support, thus, there is no good photo capturing in dark conditions.
There are a few options such as Noise reduction, Face detection, changing the levels of saturation, sharpness, contrast, location for saving the photos, picture quality (Super fine, fine and normal) and resolution of the captured photo, which can be reduced from the maximum size of 2048 x 1536 pixels. You could set to give any color effects, choose to have the shutter sound or not, options to change the white balance and exposure levels.
To cover up what is looking bad, you can use the various Android apps and edit the picture, but we suggest you not to expect much from the camera. When compared to this, Nokia did a good job with the Nokia XL which has a 5-megapixel shooter with the flash support and the autofocus.
