Procedure to Root Galaxy Nexus on any Firmware:
- Download the Galaxy Nexus Rooting Package from here to your computer. Unzip the same to a folder called “GalaxyNexusRootNew” in the C Drive of your computer and not in any of the sub folders. Don’t change the path of extraction or else, the commands won’t get executed which we will see in the due course of this article.
- Connect your phone to the computer and place the “” file in your phone. Ensure that you are not placing the file deep into the sub folders.
- After unzipping, you need to ensure that you have install the Samsung USB Drivers in your computer. Also, additionally, you need to ensure that you have configured the ADB in your computer.
- Disconnect the phone from the computer and turn off the Galaxy Nexus so that it can be entered in the Boot loader mode. Boot loader mode can be entered by pressing the Volume Up + Volume Down and then simultaneously press the Power button till you see the boot loader mode screen. Just in case if the phone boots up in the normal mode, then you need to again try entering the device in the boot loader mode.
- Open the command prompt window in your computer by pressing the “Win + R” AND ENTER “cmd” to press enter for starting the command prompt. Connect your Galaxy Nexus to the computer with the help of original USB cable. Enter the below mentioned commands one after another.
- In command prompt, enter the below command to unlock the Boot loader just in case if you haven’t unlocked yet,
Fastboot oem unlock
- After entering the above command, follow the on screen instructions to unlock the same. Now, in the command prompt, enter the below mentioned commands one by one after it gets processed,
cd/
cd GalaxyNexusRootNew
For GSM Galaxy Nexus, type:
fastboot flash recovery optimus_prime-touch-v5.5.0.4-6-GSM.img
For Verizon Galaxy Nexus, type:
fastboot flash recovery optimus_prime-touch-v5.5.0.4-6-toro-VERIZON.img
For Sprint Galaxy Nexus, type:
fastboot flash recovery twrp-toroplus-2.1.2-SPRINT.img
- Once its processed, you will get to see the image as shown above in your command prompt window. Up next with the help of Volume down key, navigate to the “Recovery Mode” and press the “Power” button to enter the device in the recovery mode.
- In recovery mode, select “install zip from sd card” and then select the file “CWM-SuperSU-v0.87.zip” file and press the power button to confirm the same. Once the file is applied successfully, select “reboot system now” from the recovery mode screen. Once you see the home screen in your phone, disconnect the phone from the computer.
Tip: Just in case if the device doesn’t get booted up, you need to now re insert the battery and then try re following the procedure from the start.
