Root Google Logitech Revue TV with Hardware and Software Tweaks

Changes to be made on Hardware of the Logitech Revue Google TV:

  • So as to completely root the Logitech Revue should be an non updated box so that we can then proceed to open the box.

  • So as you can see the above package of the Google TV Box, you now need to proceed to reverse the box where in the legs of the device will be seen as shown in the below image.

  • Now, you will have to remove the screw caps so as to open the device. There will be 4 screws in all, one under each of the screw cap.

Logitech Revue Opened

  • Now, as soon as you open the box you will now need to remove the LED Bar and look at the top side front board and then you will have to locate the pins labeled in the UART 1 which will be the pins you will be soldering to.

  • All you need to do is to just solder the 4 wires to your board. The pins which needs to be soldered are Tx, Rx, Gnd and +3.3 Pins on the board. Ensure that all the 4 connections are soldered properly and the excess flux is removed after soldering.

Google Revue Transistor

  • Now, after this you will have to attach these soldered wires with the USB > TTL device and connect to the USB > TTL Device on your computer using the software like Minicom or Putty. Please note that you will have to use the settings in the Speed of 9600 Baud Rate with 8n1. Double check the same before setting the control flow of the device.
  • After connecting you will have to now reboot the Revue in the Recovery mode. The recovery mode in the Google’s Logitech Revue can be entered by “Hold the Pairing Button which is located on the backside of the Logitech Revue till the Revue shuts Off after which press the “ALT + L” from your Revue Keyboard till you see the “Formatting Data” message shows up after which you will see a menu wherein it will be clearing all the data which will clear the partitions and other cache files.
  • So, assuming that all the processes are followed as per the above mentioned one, you will see the Logical out put through the Putty or via the Minicom. Soon after that you will be presented with the # Sign which will be your console.

Now, after this you will need to proceed to the next page wherein we will see the software part which you need to undergo now.
