Xiaomi is a well know brand nowadays with its increasing popularity in India. Initially, it was its Mi3 that throbbed the hearts with its powerful hardware and affordable price, and it’s Redmi 1s that has come to the party. The Chinese manufacturer, Xiaomi, which is popularly known as the apple of China is making waves with many other electronic items including its power banks that was released recently at an affordable price. We have been waiting for this Redmi 1s from many days that is now available exclusively via Flipkart, though, one needs to get registered for its sale just like Mi3.
Well, there is nothing special in the design of the Redmi 1s, it is just a piece of plastic with curved edges, unlike the Mi3, it is easy to hold and carry along. The bezels are neither much thin nor too big at the sides, but I feel little less space would have made justice at the bottom, since lot of space is there without a reason.
The screen size is at 4.7 inches making it impressive for it pricing and with 720p resolutions giving a pixel density of 312 ppi. The screen has a Corning Gorilla Glass 2 protection, and the phone supports dual SIM and also has a microSD card slot to extend the memory up to 32 GB, since the on-board memory of the device is 8 GB. The dimensions of the devices are at 137 x 69 x 9.9 mm and weighs just 158 grams.
At the front side, we can see the 1.6 MP camera placed on top, which is capable of taking 720p videos at 30fps and beside that is the ear piece. Coming to the bottom, there are three normal capacitive touch buttons onto the bezel. There is nothing on the left side of the device, while on the right side there are volume rocker and power buttons. On the top, there is a 3.5 mm audio jack and at the bottom a mic and USB power slot can be found, whereas mic will be used for voice actions, while latter has a purpose of juicing up the device as well as transferring the data. The back cover of the device is removable and hence the memory card, and the two SIM slots can be found just above the battery. At the back, there is an 8 MP autofocus camera with a LED flash below it, and this camera can record 1080p videos, and nothing else is on the back except the MI branding on the bottom.
The Xiaomi Redmi 1s comes out of the box with the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system installed with the company’s popular custom interface called MIUI 5.0 running on top of it. The device will be powered by a Quad-core Cortex-A-7 Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8228 chipset with clocking speeds of 1.6 GHz. There is a 1 GB of RAM on the device and an Adreno 305 GPU coupled with CPU for better performance.
Apart from these, the device is a 3G variant and will be having other connectivity options like Bluetooth v4.0, GPS, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n. To run all this, the device packs a 2050 mAh battery, which gave us a decent amount of battery life. The MIUI interface used on the device is simple and easy to use so that even the first-time users can understand it easily.
We are pretty much excited about the device and like to see how the device will be performing, further. We will be using the device for few more days and will be coming with a full review that will include the device performance tests, as well as the camera samples of the device. That will give a better idea to you on whether or not you this is a right device for you. The device is priced at an affordable price tag of Rs. 5999 and is only available from Flipkart in India. We expect this device to compete with the likes of Micromax Unite 2, Asus Zenfone 4, Lava Iris X1 and few other devices in a similar price range. So, what do you think of this device? Will you get it? or you are waiting for the arrival of Redmi Note or Mi4 in India.
