The CES 2014 was pretty good but not the best for the mobile enthusiasts. Why? it’s more about the general tech and electronics, with no huge focus in the mobile industry, although there was a flurry of smartphones and tablet devices announced at Las Vegas in the first week of January, now the Mobile World Congress 2014 event in Barcelona is what you should look for, if you wanted to keep a track of what is being announced and where the mobile industry is headed to.
We were there at the MWC 2013 event and did a full coverage of the event, and we would be doing the same this year, as you would see the AndroidAdvices team at Barcelona. If you are an attendee, make sure you are downloading the MWC Android app.
What is expected at MWC 2014
Samsung at MWC 2014
Samsung Galaxy S5
There are several devices expected to be introduced during the MWC event in Barcelona, and although its not almost certain, there are many expecting even the next flagship from Samsung, i.e. the Samsung Galaxy S5 to be announced at the MWC 2014.
The basic version of the Galaxy Grand is said to be coming during the event, and it should be powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor under the 5-inch WVGA display.
If the rumors about the Galaxy S5 anywhere near true, then the same would be about the next generation Galaxy gear smartwatch. Because, a VP at Samsung had said that they are planning to unveil the next flagship Galaxy smartphone along with the refreshed smartwatch, with a better design.
This was just announced at the Samsung Forum 2014 at Indonesia, and it comes with the specs which hold themselves between the Note 2 and Note 3. Samsung would showcase this at the MWC booth.
Another Neo device in the list, Samsung announced this tablet at the Samsung Forum and this one too is going to be seen at the Samsung booth in the event.
A huge device, with the 12.2-inch display and power packed with the heavy internal specs, the Galaxy NotePro from Samsung is going to be one of the best in the list shown by the company at the MWC event, although the Galaxy S5, if announced, might take away all the attention.
This device comes in the mid-range pricing and specs, and it is already launched in a few markets after being introduced at the Samsung Forum, but we might get a hands-on at the MWC event.
Sony at MWC 2014
This could be the successor to the Xperia Z1, but there is no name known for now. The D6503 was recently leaked with a few photos and there are quite a few differences seen from the current flagship.
On the lines of Xperia Z1, here comes the successor as Xperia Z2. With 3GB of RAM, bigger screen size of 5.2″ screen along 20.7MP of rear facing camera, these are just the snippets of features which this smartphone comes with. Do check out the complete review, specs and features of this Android smartphone.
LG at MWC 2014
The successor to the LG Optimus G Pro is finally official, with no actual details but the confirmation from the company that this will be launched at the MWC event. From the leaks, we could see that the 6-inch screen might have a 1080p display, a Snapdragon 800 processor and some other excellent specs.
LG didn’t want to keep silent with the mini version though, as the 2013 flagship LG G2 got a mini version which is not the best with the specs, but the screen size of 4.7-inch makes it smaller than the original one, and a reason for LG to come up with a new device. This would be showcased at the MWC event.
HTC at MWC 2014
HTC M8 – Not much is known about this upcoming smartphone, which could be this year’s flagship device from HTC, but this is expected to be announced officially at the MWC 2014 event.
HTC Desire 8 – The 5.5-inch Android phablet is detailed already and HTC is going to announce it at the MWC event, and this one comes with the Snapdragon 400 processor and 1GB of RAM.
Huawei at MWC 2014
Huawei should be showcasing their large Huawei Ascend Mate 2 device alongside a few other devices which would be a part of the large hall showcased every year by the company at the MWC event.
Huawei Ascend P7 – The Huawei Ascend P7 Android phone is leaked a couple of times now, and a clear press shot too is out, which indicates that this might be another device that we are going to see at the MWC 2014.
Other Brands at MWC 2014
Nokia Normandy (or Nokia X as leaked by Evleaks): This would be one of the biggest news for the year already if Nokia announces this one during the MWC. No details are available, but there are quite a few pictures leaked.
Oppo Find 7 – The Android smartphone with the 2k display and some excellent specs, leaked by the company on the Facebook page, is going to make a debut at the event.
Blackphone – The smartphone having the Android-based PrivatOS was announced recently, and this is going to be showcased at the MWC event.
Motorola – The company has scheduled an event for 25th February, and although that won’t be something about any smartphone launch but we are looking forward for it, to see what’s in store from the company, for their plan with Lenovo being the mastermind now.
ZTE – For now, we have got the details that the 6-inch phablet ZTE Grand Memo II is going to be unveiled at the event.
