  • Samsung launched two new smartphones Galaxy J5 and Galaxy J7 in China. These are first smartphones from Samsung to feature a front-facing LED flash. The Galaxy J5 comes with 5-inch HD display and to be powered by 64-bit Snapdragon 410 processor while Galaxy J7 comes with 5.5-inch HD display and will be powered by 64-bit Snapdragon 615 processor. Both devices have 1.5GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage with microSD card slot. Other features of the devices include 4G LTE with dual SIM support, 13MP rear camera and 5MP front-facing camera with LED flash as mentioned earlier. The devices come with Android 5.1 Lollipop out-of-the-box.

  • This week OnePlus announced that the upcoming flagship ‘OnePlus 2’ will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 V2.1 processor. The company stated the processor as improved version (V2.1) of Snapdragon 810 SoC. OnePlus claims their engineers played around with other options, but then finally went for 810. The reason is its speed and ability to multitask while maintaining optimal battery performance remain unmatched amongst others in the industry. As the previously launched devices running Snapdragon 810 found to get warmer, OnePlus says they worked very closely with Qualcomm’s engineers to integrate an improved version of the chipset in the OnePlus 2.

  • Meizu has sent out the media invites for an event on June 30, which might be the launch of their latest flagship Meizu MX5. The teaser image hints that the MX5 will feature a full metal body. The rumors suggest that MX5 will be featuring a 5.5-inch Full HD display, physical home button, 20MP rear camera, 3GB of RAM and to be powered by a MediaTek chipset. The device comes with Android 5.0 Lollipop based Flyme UI.

  • According to the latest reports, Korea hints that the next Nexus devices from LG will be running Android M out-of-the-box. The device features a 3D camera that incorporates two camera modules and an infrared sensor along with an intuitive UI. There will be two Nexus devices launched this year one from LG and the other from Huawei. The complete specifications of the devices come out in October when the devices will be launched officially.

  • Samsung released a new app for restoring the missing setting from the quick panel settings called as ‘QuickPanel Restore.’ The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge phones had few quick settings toggles missing. With the app that is now available for download from the Galaxy Apps store, the missing toggles can be restored. The app has nothing except the Restore button on a blue background. It is designed to restore the missing toggles such as mobile data, Wi-FI hotspot, and private mode. A bug that is reported by several users has caused the quick settings toggles to disappear, and there is no way to bring back them.

  • Kodak, a well-known manufacturer of cameras, is now going to enter the trade of smartphones with its ‘Kodak IM5’. The mid-range device was launched this week in the Netherlands with a price tag of $315 off contract. It features a 5-inch HD display and is powered by a Mediatek MT6592 octa core processor clocked at 1.7GHz and 1GB of RAM. The mid-range smartphones come with 8GB of storage with microSD card support. There is a 13MP rear camera and a 5MP front-facing camera.

  • Cortana, the voice assistant, created by Microsoft for Windows in now finally landing soon in Google’s Play Store. According to the official Microsoft blog, the app will be soon available for Android devices. It may not be that functional as seen on Windows devices. Microsoft is also working to enable the syncing of Cortana’s notebook across all devices where the personal assistant is available. It was first introduced in Windows Phone OS in early 2014.

  • Huawei is also coming up with a launch of Honor 7 on 30th June, another Chinese manufacturer, Meizu also sent out the media invites for a launch new device on this same date. The teaser image suggests the upcoming coming smartphone to feature a fingerprint scanner. There are no any other information about the device, the leaks suggest that Honor 7 will pack a 5-inch display along with 13MP primary camera and a 3,280mAh capacity of battery.

  • Samsung launched a new Android tablet ‘Galaxy Tab E’ in India with a price tag of Rs. 20,500 (approx $300). There is one more tablet launched alongside the Galaxy Tab E is ‘Galaxy Tab A’. The Tab E comes with a 9.6-inches TFT display with an aspect ratio of 16:10. It is powered by a 1.3GHz Quad core processor and 1.5GB of RAM. There is an SIM card slot along with voice calling facility. It has a huge battery of 5,00mAH capacity to keep the tablet powered on.

  • Micromax officially unveiled the latest smartphone in its Canvas series- Canvas Silver 5 in India. It has a thickness of just 5.1mm and weighs only 97 grams. The Canvas Silver 5 comes with a 4.8-inch HD AMOLED display along with the Gorilla Glass 3 protection. It has a metallic rim made out of aircraft grade aluminum, and the company claims the device as the slimmest phone ever with no bumps. It is powered by a Snapdragon 410 chipset with 2GB of RAM. There is only single SIM option and has a 2,000mAH battery. It is priced at Rs. 17,999 and will be available in Black and Gold colour options.

  • Google is trying hard to reduce the cost borne by customers when it comes to not just Android smartphones but also now is the case with the bandwidth as well. In this year’s Google I/O, the company mentioned that slow connections are still an issue. It has launched a project dubbed internally as “Google Web Light”, a service that optimizes the websites with upto 4x faster load time. With faster load times and less bandwidth data consumption, Google seems to have cracked this pretty well.

  • The Android 5.1.1 update is now finally available for Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge users. This update comes courtesy of T-Mobile in the US, although now other carriers will also push their customized updates. The update is available over the air, through Samsung Kies, and through our firmware database and is of 1.4 GB size. The updates fix the minor bugs and Samsung’s own changes like cleaning the notification shade area and other performance improvements. The Camera app has been redesigned and a new wallpaper parallax effect as seen in iOS7.
